MOVIE REVIEW:THE TRAIN

THE TRAIN.
It's amazing to know your parents history and be able to retell it ...
THE TRAIN is a movie based on the true life story of Mike Bamiloye ;founder mount Zion faith ministries, written and produced by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye (his son), directed by Yemi Adepoju and  Isaac Femi-Akintunde, with a crew and cast of about 300 people, premiered on the 3rd of March 2020.

This is by far the most captivating, edge sitting, down to earth Christian movie I've watched in a while. It is totally worth your time, everything was portrayed clearly with a strong semblance to reality (e no go do you like say na act them they actπŸ€—). This movie will let you in on who "Mike" is but beyond that it will strengthen your faith, challenge you,re-energise you,and push you back to God the author and perfecter of our faith.

Mike lost his mother at the tender age of 4 and his elder sister who was saddled with the responsibility of his care had to decide on various means to do that, we see his childhood down to his everyday activities, his growing up ,how he met his wife, and  the start of the ministry and its evolution.

This movie was a roller coaster of emotions for me.
I was at first perplexed, more like how can a boy be this stubborn and unrepentant with all the beatings, cajoling and tears (very interesting twist)?
Then I felt pity; that moment when you feel the pains the character is going through as though it were you, it was not without a sense of humour "brother Mike double double " his facial expression was everything πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚(you will understand when you watch it ).
Most importantly I was challenged, guys how can someone be completely obedient and submissive to God in such a manner? some will never understand  that  is why oga lecturer will exclaim in bewilderment "only an illiterate father will ask that of his son ..." such passion! see when the brethren were praying during the 15 minutes ministration, with sweat running down their faces, ahan!
Alaba begging  "mummy" by far is my best scene, the conviction in her speech will stay with me, challenging me for a long time. Guys I replayed and replayed it.(goan watch  it)
Worthy of note: the locations!!! They were just on point you could feel yourself being carried back in time to the 1900's, it was complete with the costumes, hairstyles and money.
The Directing, editing, cinematography, sound functions all beautifully done, the idea of the theme song while the credits was rolling and pictures kept me entranced till the (c)2020😊.(as per the end of the end)
The fact that Damilola wrote this screenplay is a challenge that we children should know our parents roots ,very important.
Translating the Yoruba language to English subtitle, must have been hard work, but it was handled very well, as a non-Yoruba speaker I flowed without questioning what kind of English I was reading .
To conclude (abi I should just keep writing πŸ˜‚πŸ˜) I leave you with these words, when you see the glory, know that someone paid the price of  looking up to Jesus, enduring the pain and scorning  the shame, there are no two ways about it.
Go and watch the train.
P.s I would really love that you comment with lessons you learnt from the movie, it will surely bless another reader.
God bless you.

  1. I watched this last night. It was indeed a beautiful story. I would say the strongest point for me was "He knows my name". It sounds like a Christian clichΓ© we often say, but those words run deep. To think that Amidst everything you identify yourself by and the world around you identifies you by, your name is your true identity- your uniqueness that sets you apart from the crowd. And He knows that name. Funny enough, I watched another movie (Jeremy Camp's I still believe) and this very same point was reemphasized; that in the midst of a so many galaxies with millions upon billions of stars and planets, the Maker of them all "Knows my name".

It reminded me that God said in His Word that even if a mother should forget the child suckling at her breast, He will never forget us. He will never! It's indeed a blessed assurance. πŸ’™

    1. Makes me remember what the psalmist says that "who am I that you are mindful of me ?".
Its amazing how God knows our worst of sins but still calls us by our name.
Read somewhere that "God does not see us through our eyes or anybody's but through his own,he loves us and wants the best for us."
Thank you for the other movie recommendation 😊.
Thank you for sharing your lesson.

  3. It was a wonderful movie, I loved many parts in it. I was reluctant to watch it initially but when I did, I was blessed. His mother and other women whom he grew up with made me realize how important Goldy parenting is. Despite his stubborness they still called him their son and treated him like one. It was a beautiful movie

    1. They believed the good in him till it became apparent.
I can imagine that some neighbours would have called him thief, stubborn but, irresponsible boy,but his mothers called him son ,wow.

  4. Finished watching it yesterday and it was worth the time.
One thing I learnt was that when you 'hear' God sometimes and it sounds 'foolish' act in faith just like Alaba told him.
The part of him quitting his job and the decision for others to go to Kano was really a tough one but God saw them through because He called them.
Also the touch of comedy was topnotch, I had a good laugh

    1. Obedience, total obedience ,kai may God help us. Bible says, he uses foolishness to confound the wise ..rhe foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom...the person without the spirit cannot accept what comes from the spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand because they are discerned only through the spirit (1 Corinthians 1,2).
Yup I loved the comedy too.
      Thank you .

  5. I watched this movie this week and I've keep disturbing those around me with excerpts from the movie, had to do chats with friends cause I couldn't keep the excitement to myself but this movie was really important to me as a drama minister,it showed me how important drama ministry is to God and how much God could use it and the sacrifices that have been made in the past. Those gossip sisters were something and the proposal I could palpate the fear, pounding yam for his mother in-law was a one way ticket. I was blessed by the movie even the dramas acted in the movie blessed me✌.What God can do with someone totally surrounded to Him.

      Hmmm drama is a ministry!!
Thank God for all that it meant to you.

  6. Where he had to change schools got me, someone once said "God's foolishness is wiser than man's wisdom" he was sensitive enough to know that God wanted him somewhere else and he was obedient enough to respond. Another part that got me was the fact that Alaba was said to be above his class and had a wealthy suitor after her, Abayomi didn't even have a job but she took that leap of faith with God.

    1. Sensitivity very very important.i pray that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened.
That was why mummy said Jesus is coming soon, for a beautiful lady to come looking for himπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

  7. YouTube recommended "The train" for me to watch. Well due to my poor glo network, it took me quite a long while to fully download it. But it was worth it.
Lots of lessons to be learnt.
    1. Do not throw away a person just because you think they are too bad.
    2. Do not despise little beginnings. Bro Mike's sister encouraged him even when he just started writing playlets that he will go very far in life.
    3. Men will surely fail you. Bro Mike's sister took the little money he had and used it to launch Bro Mike's First Magazine when he was expecting her to double the money. It ended in tears
    4. My favorite quote in the movie. "Do not look around for inspiration but look to God for revelation"
    5. Its always darkest before Dawn. When Bro Mike thought he and his family were going to be the only one going to Kano for the ministry, his crew showed up at the last minute.
Many more lessons to be learnt from a 2 hour45 mins movie.

  8. Well, what I learnt is that itsi important to hear from God before you act. What if he had stayed in Adeyemi College of Education? Would he have started Mount Zion? Would he have met the drama crew?
The other lesson I learnt is the leap of faith, his crew abandoned everything just to join the train to Kano..

    1. And to think that it was from him saying "Lord I chose the better option" and there was a quickening in his spirit that it was the wrong choice. Such sensitivity to listening to God!! And total obedience.
That Kano trip was really a leap a faith oo, imagine the ultimatum given to the members, the uncertainties and all but they still went and God was glorified.
      Thank you for sharing.

  10. A lot of people had very nice things to say about the movie before yesterday but I wasn't really moved to watch it. But seeing it on the blog yesterday, I felt that if it was a movie this site could blog about, then maybe I should try it. On downloading the movie the length of the movie scared me. How could I sit and watch a movie for that long? Well I started it, with the thought that when I was one hour into the movie, I'll go to bed but on starting it, I had to watch it till the end and between yesterday and today, I've watch the movie twice!!! All I have to say is that the movie is wonderful!!!. It taught me about Gods love, his mercy and his perfect plan that will require me to follow wholehearted and trust him till it comes to fulfillment

    2. God can take dirt and make it into a treasure.
    3. There's divine Providence for God's children if only you believe.

  13. Hi... So I'm sorry I'm just checking this blog out now finally, but I saw the movie over 2 weeks ago. Everything about it was beautiful. But the most important take home message for me was the OBEDIENCE part. I'm putting that in bold because everything about that cannot even be captured by just saying it. Like Bro Mike was obedient in even impossible ways. Especially the part of leaving everything to Kano! It had me examining my own life and asking myself HOW FAR CAN I REALLY TRAVEL WITH GOD?! Like how completely obedient and Submissive can I be without even batting an eyelid. The message of this movie is beyond words can say. I was Challenged
